Description

Ings Farmhouse is a detached house that was originally built as a farmhouse in 1699, as indicated by the datestone above the door. The building is constructed of dressed limestone and features a tiled roof, which was formerly thatched, along with stone stacks. It has an L-shaped plan and is two storeys high with two windows on the front facade.

The central doorway is blocked, with a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement window on either side. On the first floor, there is a central blocked bull's eye window with the date 1699 in the spandrels, along with an oval tablet displaying the initials RPA below it, and again, a three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement window on either side. The left side of the building has a single attic casement window and an attached single-storey addition with casement windows. The right side features a single-light recessed hollow-chamfered attic casement window.

At the rear, the north side of the wing has a 20th-century door and two hollow-chamfered casement windows, one of which is also from the 20th century. The rear gable of the wing includes a two-light casement window on both the ground and first floors, and a single hollow-chamfered casement window in the attic. The south side of the wing has 20th-century French windows and casement windows. The rear of the main range features 20th-century French windows within a 20th-century conservatory and a two-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement window on the first floor.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered beams with stepped stops, and an open fireplace on the south gable with a chamfered lintel set on stone jambs. The winding stairs in the wing rise from the ground floor to the attic, partly enclosed by moulded planks and muntins, and there are planked doors throughout. The building ceased to function as a farmhouse in the 1970s.
