Description

Parsonage Mead is a house located in Winterbourne Earls, dating from the mid-18th century. It was refaced around 1820 and extended in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick, with the front elevation rendered and stone quoins. It stands two storeys high with attics and originally featured three bays, later extended to the left by an additional bay beyond the original gable stack. The layout includes a central stair hall plan with a narrow service passage at the rear, which is covered by an extension of the roof.

The front entrance has a recessed six-panelled door with a fanlight and panelled reveals, framed by a fluted outer doorcase and topped with a small corniced flat canopy. The windows are sixteen-paned sashes on the ground floor, with eight-paned windows on the upper floors, except for the centre window, which has nine panes. There are three hipped paned dormers in the roof. A late 20th-century brick extension is located to the left of the original structure. The interior has been altered over time. Historically, this building served as a parsonage, and it is noted that the Secretary of State to Charles I and Charles II is said to have lived on this site.
