Description

WINTERBOURNE TANNER LANE, Winterbourne Earls SU 13 SE 6/200 Parsonage Mead II

House. Mid C18, refaced c1820 and extended in late C19 and C20. Brick, rendered to front elevation, with stone quoins. Two storeys and attics, 3 bays, extended in C19 to left by further bay beyond original gable stack. Central stair hall plan with narrow service passage at rear under extension of roof. Recessed 6 panelled door with fanlight and panelled reveals. Fluted outer doorcase and small corniced flat canopy. Sixteen-paned sashes, 8-paned to upper floors but 9-paned to centre. Three hipped paned dormers. Late C20 brick extension to left. Interior altered. The building was once a parsonage, and The Secretary of State to Charles I and Charles II is said to have lived on this site.
