Description
67 and 69 High Street is a house that has been divided into two shops, now functioning as one. It dates from the early 18th century and was divided in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of limestone rubble with ashlar and brick gable stacks, topped by a stone slate roof. It has a two-room parallel plan with a rear extension.
The exterior features two storeys with a one-window range. The right-hand doorways have mid-19th century surrounds and shop fronts, which include panelled jambs for the fascias and cornices, along with thin mullions for the segmental-headed plate-glass windows. Number 67 has an overlight and a half-glazed door, with a shop front that has four lights. The shop front of Number 69 is divided in a 2:1 configuration, both featuring timber surrounds. On the first floor, there are timber lintels above 2/2-pane horned sashes in flush frames, with a 12/12-pane leaded casement dormer on the left and a 15/15-pane dormer on the right.
Inside, the ground floor includes a fireplace on the right with a bressumer and an inserted 19th-century fireplace. There is also a chamfered, stopped axial ceiling beam and a scratch sundial that has been reset in an interior wall.
