Description

A pair of attached cottages, dating from around the 16th century to the late 18th century. The cottages are built of rubble stone with a double Roman tiled roof and brick stacks. They are two storeys high with a three-window front. Number 4 has a six-panelled beaded door within a staff moulded surround, topped by a flat stone hood supported by brackets. To the left of the door is a pair of twelve-pane sashes, set in a plain stone case with a central mullion. Number 6 has a 20th-century door and a pair of twelve-pane sashes in a similar plain stone case with a central mullion. The first floor has two twelve-pane sashes and one 20th-century window, all within plain stone cases. The left return side features a 19th-century lean-to addition and a three-light casement window on the first floor. The interior was not inspected but is understood to contain a pair of cruck trusses, which were recorded and exposed during renovation, providing evidence of a building dating from the 16th century. Information from the Wiltshire Buildings Record supports this.
