Description

This is a pair of 18th-century buildings on the south side of High Street, Warminster. The front of the buildings is rendered, with an old tile roof and gable-end chimneys. Number 49 has an ashlar plinth. Both properties are two storeys high. Number 49 has two glazing bar sash windows set in flush moulded surrounds and a moulded wooden eaves cornice with box gutters on the ground floor. It also features a late 19th- or early 20th-century shop front with two short pilasters supporting a modillion corniced fascia. Number 51 has a yard entry to the left with a round-headed frame, moulded necking to pilasters, a keystone, and six-panel double doors. A plate glass shop window is located to the right of the entrance, alongside a glazed door framed by early to mid-19th-century reeded pilaster strips. A long, two-storey extension to the rear of Number 49, likely originally accommodation for an inn, is constructed of rubble. An archway with a lintel leads into a lean-to stable with a pantiled roof, opening onto Were Walk, creating a pleasant group of buildings.
