Description
No. 3 George Street is a building from the 1820s to 1830s. It has three storeys and is constructed of painted brick, featuring three stone pilaster strips with incised panels at the top and bottom, decorated in a fretted al greco style. The façade has a two-over-one window arrangement, with single-hung glazing bar sashes on the second floor. The stone lintels are grooved to resemble brick flat arches.
On the ground floor, there is an early 20th-century shop front to the left, which includes a recessed central door, and a late glazed sash window to the right. The roof is covered with Marley tiles, has flat eaves with occasional brackets, and features stone-coped verges with kneelers and brick chimneys at the gable ends.
At the side, the building returns to Were Walk, where it is made of rubble with brick quoins and quoined dressings. There is a lower three-storey extension that includes two blocked three-light casements and a doorway with a traceried fanlight. Adjacent to this is a lower brick yard wall, approximately 15 feet high, with a gable end to the right for a pantiled shed, extending about 20 yards in length.
