Description

CORSHAM LACOCK ROAD ST 8770 (south side) 5/241 Corsham Further Education Centre GV II

Former school, 1816 and mid C19, coursed rubble stone with hipped low slate roofs. Rear range is original 1816 building, single storey with flush quoins, ashlar plinth and eaves band. Windows are mullioned with cusped heads and hoodmoulds. Two 3-lights to north front, left, two 3-lights to east end, door and three 3- lights to rear, and 2-light and 3-light to west end. North front right has projecting mid C19 addition with hipped roof. Projecting gabled porch with moulded door surround, Tudor-arched overlight and hoodmould, single light with hoodmould to left, two 3-light mullion-and-transom windows with hoodmoulds to right. Between windows reset plaque 'This School Room for the instruction of poor children was erected by P.C. Methuen Esqr AD 1816'. West end of addition has 2-light mullion-and-transom window, east end has single light and 3-light windows with hoodmoulds.
