Description
The large granary at West Dean Farmhouse is an 18th-century structure used for storing grain. It is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on four by eleven staddles, and features a tiled roof. The granary has central opposed boarded doors and an additional door located in the south gable end. It consists of five bays with a concrete floor, which is partly lap boarded internally. The interior includes tie beam trusses with long reverse curved braces connecting to jowled posts. The principal rafters extend to collar level, supported by a single tier of purlins. The side framing incorporates corner braces in each bay. The posts are individually numbered, alternating sides and reversing at the center. The roof is half hipped.
