Description
Number 17 on High Street is an 18th-century building that stands two storeys high with an attic above a basement. It features coursed cement rendering and is located on a corner site with Chequers Passage. A string course runs along the first floor and above the first-floor windows on both sides. The building has a parapet with painted stone coping and a mansard slate roof, which includes two gabled dormers.
On the High Street side, there are three windows on the first floor and two on the ground floor, all of which are sash windows with glazing bars set in architrave frames that have thin keystones. The central door consists of six flush panels and is framed by an architrave surround with a plain outer casing. Boldly cut brackets support a dentil cornice and pediment. On the Chequers Passage side, there are two windows on each floor, similar to those facing High Street, with the glazing bars remaining intact.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos 16 to 22 and No 24.
