Description
The Lydiard Millicent War Memorial is a cross of rough-hewn granite located in the churchyard of the Church of All Saints. The memorial stands near several listed monuments, including a medieval churchyard cross. It takes the form of a wheel-head cross, with a reversed sword carved in low relief on the front face. The cross shaft rises from a tapering pedestal, which stands upon a stone step. An inscription in applied metal lettering appears at the foot of the cross shaft, reading "TO THE/ GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN/ MEMORY OF," followed by the names of thirteen commemorated individuals, recorded with rank and regiment. The inscription concludes with the words “THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE.” The listing details were updated in December 2016 to include links to further online resources for researching war memorials.
