Description
The stables to Lydiard House, built around 1840, are now used as stables and a dwelling. Constructed from squared limestone rubble, the building features a slate roof and is two storeys high. It has a central block with three bays and one bay wings that extend forward, creating a courtyard facing the road. The right wing serves as the dwelling and has a small extension with a door. The right bay of the main block has carriage doors that now hide a domestic window, and there is a three-centred arch with a raised keystone above it. A boarded door is located in the left bay. The building has iron casement windows with a central pivot vent, and the living quarters have 6-pane sash windows. The upper floor windows are positioned above the eaves, and the roof is hipped. There is a centre pitching door with an iron ladder leading to the ground, and a louvred turret covered in lead with a wind vane. An ashlar stack is present on the dwelling. The gate pier at the road entrance features swept coping on the wall. Inside, the stables contain cast iron stalls.
