Description

Court Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse, altered in the early 19th century. It is constructed of random rubble stone with a hipped stone slate roof and stone stacks, including one octagonal stack. The building follows an L-shaped plan and has a five-window front. The central entrance features a 6-panelled door set within a bolection-moulded architrave, with a chamfered transom light above. Flanking the door are two 2-light cross windows, with a lintel string course running above. Five first-floor cross windows are present, and the eaves are formed with a cyma-moulded stone cornice. The right-hand return has two cross windows, one of which is blocked. The left-hand return has two cross windows. A rear wing includes an early 19th-century six-panelled door within a chamfered surround, featuring a transom light and hoodmould. The south side of the wing has 19th-century paired sash windows, while the north side has 2-light mullioned casements. The first-floor eaves on the north side were raised with paired sash windows. A 20th-century lean-to extension is also present at the rear. Inside, a good dog-leg staircase has barleytwist balusters, square newels with pendants and finials, and a moulded handrail.
