Description
Brick Mills is an early 19th-century building, dating from around 1814. It has a typical rectangular block shape and stands four storeys high with eight bays, although it was originally twelve bays before being reduced. The structure is constructed of red brick in English bond and features eight ranges of standard two-light windows set in stone surrounds, most of which are blocked, though some still have glazing bar casements. There are stone bands on the first, second, and third floors. To the left, there are large modern doors, and three bays from the right is a large segmental archway. There is a doorway on the first floor to the right, which includes a keystone.
To the right, there is a single-storey extension with a slate roof, which has four standard glazing bar casement windows and large sliding double doors. The main building has a double Roman tiled roof with coped verges that feature moulded footstones and saddlestones. A large projecting shaft is located at the southwest corner.
Brick Mills is part of an industrial group that includes Home Mill Buildings, Castle Factory, and The Chapel, which serves as the offices of Samuel Salter and Co Ltd.
