Description

This is a mid-to-late 17th-century cottage located in Ablington. It has a timber frame, although much of the original timber framing has been replaced with rendered chalkstone on flint footings, with brick to the rear, likely dating to the 18th or early 19th century. The cottage is a single storey with an attic, originally comprising three bays. The main living room features an axial stack. An inner room has been subdivided, with the northern part containing a staircase, and a kitchen is situated in a lean-to addition beyond the stack. The timber framing is two panels high with straight corner braces, visible only in the gable end. A half-glazed door sits opposite the stack, sheltered by a tiled open porch. There are paned timber windows, and a single flush dormer window is present. The brick stack has a hipped lean-to to the west, and the roof is half-hipped to the east. Internally, the main fireplace has been blocked and the ceiling beams are boxed in.
