Description
Hazeldon Old Manor is a farmhouse, now a detached house, dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The building is constructed of rubble stone and dressed limestone, topped with a thatched roof and brick stacks. It likely has a former through passage plan and is a single storey with an attic, featuring five windows.
The entrance includes a six-panelled door set in a gabled porch to the left, alongside a three-light casement window. There is also a single-light casement, a 16-pane sash window in a blocked doorway, another 16-pane sash within a moulded architrave, a second blocked doorway, and a four-pane sash to the right. The roof has four raking eaves dormers with two-light casements, and a full gabled stone dormer to the right with a two-light casement. A straight joint is visible to the right of the porch, indicating a build to the left that is an 18th-century addition. Attached to the right is an early 18th-century single-storey extension featuring a single recessed chamfered casement, a planked door to the rear, and a hipped thatched roof. The first floor of the main range has two single casements.
At the rear, there is a planked door and two three-light recessed chamfered mullioned casements, along with two-light and single casements. The attic has five raking eaves dormers with either two-light or single-light casements.
During the survey in January 1986, the interior was being renovated. It features a timber-framed partition with brick nogging to the left of the central blocked doorway, an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel on stone jambs, and a deeply chamfered ceiling beam with stepped stops. The partly exposed roof includes a chamfered runner with stepped stops resting on a collar in the attic.
