Description

St Mary's Cottage is a house built around the mid-19th century. It is constructed from dressed limestone rubble and features a low-pitched Welsh slate roof with gabled ends. The front has very deep eaves with a wavy valance, supported by curved braces with small pendants, and there are stone gable-end stacks with red brick shafts.

The house has a symmetrical three-bay front and stands two storeys tall. The deeply overhanging eaves create a canopy on the front, which has two ground floor windows and two first floor windows. All windows have deeply-chamfered stone frames; the ground floor windows include hoodmoulds and are fitted with 2-light casements that have horizontal glazing bars. At the centre of the front is a large stone porch with a deeply chamfered stone door frame that has a flat head and radiused corners. To the right, set back, is a lower two-storey one-bay range that features a 3-light casement on the ground floor and a 2-light casement on the first floor.

The interior has not been inspected. This early Victorian house is notable for its unusual deeply overhanging eaves.
