Description
Bramhope is a villa, likely dating to the 1870s, which was later converted into flats in 1952. The building is constructed of stucco and has a hipped slate roof with stacks that feature stuccoed shafts with bands and deep, projecting cornices. The plan consists of a main rectangular block facing east, with a central stair hall, a wing to the north-east, and a service wing to the north.
The entrance front to the right-hand wing has three bays and is characterised by deep eaves with paired moulded brackets. A moulded platband runs along the first-floor level, and there’s an eaves band. The central entrance bay is gabled and projects forward, featuring rusticated quoining. It has a flat-roofed porch with distyle columns in antis and an entablature, and a half-glazed outer door with an overlight. Ground-floor windows on either side have pediments on consoles; the left-hand window is blind, and the right-hand has been reglazed in the 20th century. First-floor windows have moulded architraves and sill blocks; the left-hand window is blind, while the others are glazed with 12-pane sashes. The wing to the right has a two-window front, and a single-storey front block features a balustraded parapet. Details are consistent in style, with windows glazed with 4-pane sashes incorporating horizontal glazing bars.
Inside, original features remain including a staircase with turned balusters, plaster cornices, and doors and doorcases set within their original surrounds.
