Description

No. 85 Abbey Road is a detached house, now functioning as a hotel, built around 1850. The building features a stuccoed and blocked exterior with a slate roof that has gabled ends. It showcases a lateral stack with rendered shafts, two on each side, and is designed in the Italianate style. The house is oriented end on to the road with a double-depth layout and the entrance located on the right side.

The exterior consists of three storeys and has a symmetrical two-bay front. A pedimented gable crowns the front, complete with a moulded cornice and an oculus. There are platbands between the floors, and the bays are separated by pilasters. The windows include 12-pane horned sashes on the second and first floors, while the ground floor features sashes with a 6 over 9-pane configuration. A four-bay verandah spans the front, supported by iron columns and topped with a lapped glass roof, with trellis panels in front. The verandah wraps around to the right side, where there is one window on each return. The interior has not been inspected.
