Description
The retaining and boundary walls to the Parish Church of St Luke in Torquay were likely built in 1863, at the same time as the church, and designed by A. Blomfield. They are constructed from local grey limestone rubble with freestone dressings. The retaining wall on the north side of the church features large, blind Gothic stone arches with a 2-centred design. The west wall includes freestone coping and gate piers that have square bases topped with pyramidal caps. This retaining wall is an important part of the church's design, enhancing its position on a hilltop site.
