Description
Milton Cottage is a detached house located on Milton Street in Higher Brixham, dating from the early 19th century. The building features solid roughcast walls and a slated roof with two hipped spans. There are two rendered chimneys situated in the valley between the roof spans. The house is oriented at right angles to the street, facing northeast, and is double-fronted and double-depth, with a rear range that is likely a later addition.
It stands two storeys tall and is three windows wide. The central doorway is adorned with Doric columns and an entablature that bows forward in the middle, leading to a panelled door. The ground floor windows consist of triple sashes, with the central window having six panes and the side windows having two panes each. The upper storey features plain box-framed sashes. The gable wall facing the street has a single window with a fixed eight-paned wood sash. The rear wall, which is visible from the street, includes two wood casement windows, each with two lights and six panes per light.
In addition, the front garden is enclosed by a long, high stone rubble wall that runs along the street, sweeping up next to the gateway adjoining the house and finished with a flat stone coping.
