Description
The stable and coach house block at Lower Blagdon House is a mid-19th century remodelling of an earlier structure. It is primarily built of local grey and purple stone rubble, with some cob, and features a slate roof adorned with crested ridge tiles. The building is arranged in an L-plan, facing the entrance court of Lower Blagdon House. The main block serves as the coach house, with a roof running west to east and a carriageway through the center; stables are located in a range at the east end.
The exterior is one storey with a loft. The main block has paired plank carriage doors with strap hinges on both sides, and the carriageway is located in the center with a loft door above it. There is a secondary garage door inserted to the left of center. The rear elevation includes some cob, with the carriageway and loft door above. To the right, there is a stable door flanked by windows. The west elevation of the stable range features two doorways, with a stable door on the right that has a glazed overlight, and two-light windows on either side. A gabled loft door is also present on the right. To the left, the stable block has a doorway leading to a second door into the main range. The rear elevation of the stable range has one gabled loft doorway. The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest.
