Description
Pound House is a former cider house that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 18th century and was converted in the 1980s. The building is constructed of slatestone rubble and features a slate roof with an inserted stone stack. It is two storeys high and designed in the bank barn style, with access to the upper level through a hip-roofed porch that is adjacent to a slate pentice over the ground-floor windows and door. The doors and windows from the 1980s are mostly placed in their original openings. The house has been extended and incorporates many old features from other buildings, including a two-light timber mullioned window from Exmoor, a 16th-century granite chamfered doorway, and a 17th-century plank door. The interior is also filled with recycled elements, such as roof trusses and a plank and muntin screen. Additionally, the cider press has been preserved inside. The building has group value with Middle Blagdon Cottage.
