Description
No. 8 and 8A on High Street in Swindon is a house that has been converted into a club. It dates from the late 18th century and is constructed of brick with a cement paint finish, topped with a slate roof. The building is three stories tall and has four bays, with a two-storey and attic rear wing made of stone. There is also a detached two-storey and attic building at the rear, featuring a hipped roof and segmental-headed dormers.
The facade includes an entrance in the first bay, which is framed by an open pedimented doorcase supported by engaged columns, leading up three steps. There is a six-panel door located in the second bay. The first floor features 12-pane sash windows with bracketed pediments, while the second floor has similar windows without pediments. The building is finished with an eaves cornice and an intermittently pierced balustrade.
