Description

Weir Farmhouse, along with the remains of a former house to the left, is a Grade II listed farmhouse. The left part dates from the late 17th century and features an ashlar wall to the south with a rubble return wall facing the street. It has two storeys and an attic, with four bays; the right-hand bay is incorporated into the adjacent house. The windows include two-light cross windows with ovolo moulded mullions, transoms, and surrounds, along with a two-light casement on the ground floor and a 16-pane sash window on the first floor to the right. The right side has a coped stone gable with a blocked two-light casement window, also with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, beneath a drip mould. There is a continuous moulded string course over the ground and first floors, and the parapet was originally topped with three more stone gables. The door to the left has an ovolo/ogee moulded surround, and there is a similar doorway in the coped rubble return wall facing the street.

The right part of the farmhouse dates from the mid to late 18th century and is rendered with a slate mansard roof featuring coped raised verges. This section also has two storeys and attics in dormers, with three bays of glazing bar sash windows set in plain architraves. The central entrance has a six-panel door in a moulded surround with a depressed four-centred head. A projecting porch with columns leads to the doorway, which has a four-centred head and carved spandrels, along with a parapet that features gables and decorative carving.
