Description
The main block and former Master's house of Marshfield Primary School, along with the front boundary wall, were established in 1861 as a national school. The building is constructed from coursed squared rubble and features a Cotswold stone slate roof with ashlar stacks that have a cornice. It is a single-storey structure with a projecting gabled cross wing at each end; the right wing houses the former Master's house, which includes an attic. The facade consists of six bays, with 2-light square-headed casement windows in the center, complete with mullions and transoms. The left wing has a 3-light cross window beneath an arched head, while the right wing features a 3-light square bay window with a 2-light casement above it. There are two plank doors with arched heads located in projecting gabled porches at the re-entrant angles. The building has lateral stacks with set-offs and diagonal chimneys that display the arms and motto of New College, Oxford, a benefactor of the school. The boundary wall is made of low coped coursed rubble, with ashlar piers topped with pyramidal caps.
