Description

This is a barn attached to the north of Littleton House, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with 19th century and later alterations. It is constructed of limestone rubble with stone dressings and features a stone tiled roof with raised coped verges and kneelers, as well as some double Roman tiles and slates.

The west elevation, facing the road, has a high cart entry with a pitched roof, ventilation slits on either side, and a blocked loading door to the left under the eaves. There is a straight joint with quoins leading to a lower addition on the left, which includes a 2-light casement with flat mullions under the eaves and a blocked door to the left. The left side of the barn features an owl hole in the gable end. The lower addition has a hipped slate roof and a single-storey lean-to with a stone tiled roof on the left side. The rear of the addition includes high doors reaching the eaves height, an external stair leading to a loading door, and a stable door.

At the rear of the main barn, there is a high gabled cart entry with lean-to additions on each side; the left side has a double Roman tiled roof, while the right side is covered with slates. The high double doors have a timber lintel, and there is a small loading door above them, along with ventilation slits and a loading door to the right.

Inside, the barn features a 10-bay roof, mostly consisting of 19th century replacement beams, with principal rafters, a tie-beam, a collar, two rows of purlins, and plated yokes. Some tie-beams include struts.
