Description

The Old Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the 17th century, featuring alterations and additions from the 19th century and later. It is constructed of limestone rubble with stone dressings and heavy quoins, with some parts rendered. The front roof is covered with concrete double Roman tiles, which have raised coped verges and a central ashlar stack; the rear roof features a combination of double Roman tiles and pantiles.

The building has a through passage plan and stands two storeys tall with three windows on the front. The ground floor includes a 2-light and a 3-light casement window with flat mullions, one of which has a hood mould and one with a dripstone. There is a 20th-century door with a timber lintel, and to the right, a 20th-century 2-light casement window with an ovolo mullion and hood mould. On the first floor, there are two 2-light casements and a central 3-light casement under the eaves, all featuring ovolo mullions.

The right side of the building has a 2-light casement window on both the ground and first floors, with the first-floor window having a hood mould. There is also a blocked 2-light casement in the gable end. Attached to the rear right is a 1½ storey outbuilding with a 20th-century window and a ridge stack. The left side of the building is rendered and has a single-storey lean-to.

At the rear, there are two bays set back to the right; the ground floor features a 2-light and a 3-light casement window similar to those on the right side, along with two 2-light casements under the eaves, one of which has a partially blocked 20th-century window. A 20th-century lean-to is attached to the left with a door, and there is a single light with ovolo mouldings under the eaves to the left. The inner side of the outbuilding has three stable doors with timber lintels, a straight joint, two 20th-century windows, and a small light with a timber lintel to the left, along with a loading door in the gable end.

Inside, the farmhouse features heavy chamfered beams and a winder stair located at the rear left of the passage. The central stack has a fireplace with a heavy stone lintel and a shouldered head, along with an oven recess in the upper right. The window mullions are ovolo-moulded on the inside, and the west side of the house is at a higher level than the east. The roof structure is believed to contain principals with curved feet.
