Description
The Turnpike Tollhouse, now a house, dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and coursed rubble, featuring stone dressings and a hipped sprocketed slate roof with brick ridge stacks. The rear has a rendered addition with a roof covered in asbestos slates. The building has an irregular hexagonal plan and stands two storeys tall.
The east elevation, made of ashlar, includes a blind window on the first floor and a band course. The north elevation, in rubble, features a small canted bay in ashlar with round-headed plate-glass sashes on either side, external shutters, and a hipped roof. The first floor has a band course, a 4-pane light, and a quoin strip to the right. The south elevation has a pair of round-headed plate-glass lights at the ground floor and a similar 4-pane light at the first floor, along with a band course and a quoin strip to the left. The interior has not been inspected.
