Description

Shieling School, built between 1832 and 1836, is a two-storey building located on Thornbury Park Road. The exterior is rendered with ashlar dressings and features incised pilaster strips. It has a hipped slate roof with overhanging bracketed eaves adorned with paterae. The front facade includes three windows with glazing bar sashes and moulded architraves, along with tripartite windows on the ground floor. A central Ionic porch adds to its architectural significance. The rear elevation retains a decorative cast iron framework of a verandah. To the left, there is a lower two-storey wing with four windows. The interior has been mostly altered but still includes a moulded cornice in the hall and a cast-iron staircase.
