Description

Tapton Grove, built around 1800, is a two-storey building constructed of rough pecked ashlar with an eaves cornice and a stone slate roof. The façade features five sash windows and a central door flanked by Doric columns and a pediment, with narrow side sashes. The entrance includes a six-panelled door with fielded garrets and a radial fanlight, and there are three windows on the returns. The interior is notably impressive, with rooms that include panelling, fireplaces, and moulded plaster ceilings reflecting both 17th and 18th century styles. The entrance hall boasts an arch and a fluted ceiling panel, while the staircase is enhanced by fluted end columns and cast iron balusters, which alternate between plain and moulded designs. The staircase also features an oval dome with glazed band lights and six-panelled doors. It is noted that the rear of the house is believed to be older.
