Description

This building is a stable and attached barn located about 10 metres west of Esperanza. The stable dates from the 17th century, while the barn was built later in the same century and has undergone some alterations. The structure is made of rubble with stone dressings and features pantiled and double Roman tiled roofs, with the stable having a hipped south end.

The stable is two storeys high and consists of four bays. It has two first-floor windows with chamfered and stopped jambs and lintels, and plain cills. The two outer windows on the ground floor have similar surrounds and consist of two lights with chamfered and stopped mullions. There are also two central plank double doors framed in chamfered and stopped surrounds, with stone segmental heads above all ground-floor openings. The building has stone quoins and a tie-beam collar roof.

Attached to the stable is a single-storey extension that includes a door and a garage opening, both beneath a double Roman tiled roof. The barn has four bays and features a high cart entry along with a smaller opening to the right, both supported by timber lintels. Additionally, there are two doors in the west wall, also with timber lintels, and a window at the upper gable end facing north.

Inside the barn, there are two tie-beams located halfway up the wall, three tie-beams with collars, purlins, a ridge purlin, and a plated yoke.
