Description
The Gables and Wayside are a pair of cottages dated 1863, located on the east side of The Green in Stoke Gifford. They are constructed of rubble brought to courses with freestone dressings and feature slate roofs. The cottages are two storeys high and have two windows, with a pair of central gables that are flanked by lean-to porches supported on stop-chamfered shafts, which project from the main gabled block. The windows in the central gables are transmullioned diamond lattice casements, with three lights below and two lights above. The gables and porches have ornate bargeboards, and there are large central stacks. Similar windows can be found in the end and rear gables. This building is part of a significant development by the Beaufort estate, designed in a picturesque style.
