Description
The walls, gate piers, and gates located at the junction of Sands Hill and the A46 date from the early 19th century, with some repair work carried out in the 20th century. The structure features coursed limestone freestone walls and ashlar piers, along with cast iron gates. The walls are arranged in an arc, consisting of two sections, each approximately 7 meters long and about 2 meters high. They are built on a plinth, with a pier at each end, and a continuous cornice running over the walls and outer piers. There is a pair of tall square central piers that have a cornice, plinth, and a ball finial on the stem, with the left one being a replacement from the 20th century. The gates are made of cast iron and feature curved struts. This structure is situated at the southeast approach to Dyrham Park.
