Description

Hobbema House is a house dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries, with alterations made in the 20th century. Rainwater heads are dated WTB/1902, referring to Wynter Thomas Blathwayt. The house is constructed of limestone rubble with stone dressings and quoins, and has a stone slate roof with raised coped verges and kneelers.

The south front has two and a half storeys and three windows, all two-light casement windows with stone ovolo mullions and hood moulds. There are two windows on the ground and first floors, and one in the gable rising to the ridge. A six-panelled door is located on the right, with a small single light window above, both set within a moulded stone surround. All windows have leaded lights and early 20th-century loop catches. A two-storey lean-to is attached to the right. The right return has a restored two-light casement window on the ground floor, a similar window on the first floor, and a small single light window in a plain reveal at attic level. The gables are finished with ball finials, and there are diagonal gable stacks.

The rear of the house has two similar ground floor windows, the one to the left having a hood mould, and a smaller similar window above a blocked door to the left. A first-floor central two-light casement window has a hood mould. A gable and window match those on the front. Under the eaves, to the left, is a small fixed light window in a chamfered surround. A small lean-to to the left features a two-light casement window with ovolo mullions and a hood mould, and a 20th-century lean-to is attached to the left.

The interior has not been inspected.
