Description
Village Lodge, including gates, gate piers, walls, and railings, was built around 1860. It is constructed from coursed squared rubble and features a Cotswold stone slate roof with overhanging eaves, plain bargeboards, and finials, all in the Tudor Gothic style. The building is a single storey with attics.
On the east elevation, there are two bays, with a gabled projecting wing on the left and a gabled oriel window on corbels to the right. The windows are casement style with diamond pattern glazing, set in moulded mullions and surrounds, and are topped with hood moulds and relieving arches. A plank door is located in the re-entrant angle, leading to an open porch that has segmental heads and a frieze adorned with a band of fleurons.
The north elevation features a 1-2-1-light bay window on the ground floor and a 2-light casement window above. The west elevation has an oriel window similar to that on the east. To the north, there are two quadrant coursed squared rubble walls that end in square ashlar piers with pyramidal caps. There are two central piers topped with cast iron lanterns, with cast iron gates between them, as well as outer pedestrian gates and inner vehicular gates.
