Description
Essex House is a house dating from around 1700, built in the Queen Anne style. It features a rendered exterior with freestone quoins and a hipped roof made of Cotswold stone slate, along with ashlar stacks. The house has two storeys and consists of five bays, with two-light casement cross windows that have lead cames and iron casement stays. The central entrance is a panelled door set within an ashlar bolection moulded surround, above which is an impressive carving of the Beaufort arms, framed by a cartouche and set against a diamond background, topped with a coronet. The property is enclosed by low, coped ashlar boundary walls, which include central ashlar piers topped with ball finials. Inside, there are panelled rooms on the first floor.
