Description

This is a house on a street corner, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is located in George Street, Devonport, and forms part of a notable group of listed buildings. The exterior is stuccoed, with a painted granite ashlar plinth, and has a roof hidden behind a plain parapet, with chimney stacks over the rear wall. The house has a single-depth plan, with its right-hand end facing George Street.

The building is three storeys high, featuring a four-window front along Clowance Street, a one-window section, and a two-window range on the right-hand return. A mid-floor string course and a second-floor sill string are visible. Most windows are original hornless sashes with glazing bars, though some have had glazing bars removed, and a few are later copies – some with glazing bars and some without. The entrance bay retains original tripartite sashes. A porch sits in front of the entrance, featuring a simple entablature and a segmental-arched doorway with consoles and a pair of glazed doors.

The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest.
