Description
Villa in a planned group of villas, dating from the 1820s and 1830s. The exterior is incised stucco with a dry slate hipped mansard roof concealed behind a parapet. The parapet features a moulded entablature and a balustraded central section, with panelled stuccoed end stacks and moulded cornices. There are also attic windows. The building follows a double-depth plan, likely with three rooms at the front and an axial entrance hall accessed via a porch to the left.
It is two storeys high with an attic, and has a symmetrical three-bay front. The central bay projects slightly and there is a single-storey porch set back on the left. The windows are late 19th or 20th-century horned sashes, with the central bay featuring tripartite sashes with consoles and moulded hoods; the ground-floor sashes are taller. The porch has a parapet with a moulded cornice.
The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to contain features of interest. The villa is part of an important planned group of terraces and villas designed by Foulston and his pupil Wightwick on the Hoe. This scheme positioned Plymouth at the forefront of town planning in the early to mid 19th century.
