Description

Villa in a planned group of villas, dating from the 1820s and 1830s. The villa is constructed of incised stucco, with a dry slate hipped mansard roof concealed behind a parapet. The parapet features a moulded entablature and a balustraded central break, with panelled stuccoed end stacks topped with moulded cornices. An attic roof has rooflights. The building follows a double-depth plan, likely containing three rooms at the front, and includes a porch leading to an axial entrance hall on the left. It is two storeys high plus an attic, with a symmetrical three-bay front. The central bay is broken forward, and a single-storey porch is set back on the left. The windows are late 19th or 20th century horned sashes. The central bay features tripartite sashes with consoles and moulded hoods, while the ground-floor sashes are taller. The porch has a moulded cornice and a front doorway with consoles and a moulded hood. The interior has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest. The villa is part of an important planned group of terraces and villas by Foulston and his pupil Wightwick on the Hoe, which was significant for its contribution to town planning in the early to mid 19th century.
