Description
Windsor Villas No. 2 is a villa built in the 1820s to 1830s, part of a planned group of villas. It features incised stucco and a dry slate hipped mansard roof behind a parapet with a moulded entablature and a balustraded centre break. The villa has panelled stuccoed end stacks with moulded cornices and attic windows with segmental heads. The layout is double-depth, likely with three rooms at the front and an entrance porch leading to an axial entrance hall on the left. It stands two storeys plus an attic, with a symmetrical three-bay front where the centre bay is slightly forward and a single-storey porch set back on the left. The windows are late 19th or 20th century horned sashes, with the central bay featuring consoles and moulded hoods, while the ground-floor sashes are taller. The porch has a parapet with a moulded cornice and a front doorway adorned with consoles and a moulded hood. The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest. This villa is part of an important planned group of terraces and villas designed by Foulston and his pupil Wightwick on the Hoe, which positioned Plymouth as a leader in town planning in the early to mid-19th century.
