Description

This is an 18th-century farmhouse with attached garden walls, gate piers, and steps. The farmhouse is constructed from squared and coursed rubble with stone copings and a triple Roman tile roof. It has a five-window south front, with 20th-century wooden cross mullion windows, each fitted with casements. The central entrance has a 19th-century six-panel door with a flat hood supported by wooden brackets. Stone stacks are located at each end of the building. A terraced garden descends to the road, featuring seven graded semi-circular steps at the upper level and four similar steps leading up to the gate at road level. These garden features are enclosed by rubble walls, approximately 2 metres high, with stone copings. The walls surround chamfered, rusticated dressed stone gate piers, 1.5 metres high, with flat copings, and a 20th-century wrought iron gate. The farmhouse is named for its stepped garden design.
