Description
Springhead Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1687, with restoration carried out between 1924 and 1928. It is constructed from squared and coursed rubble, featuring dressed stone openings and copings, topped with a pantile roof. The building has an E-shaped plan, with projecting gabled end wings and a central gabled porch that has a room above it. It stands two storeys high, with an attic and a basement.
All windows are designed with 4-light ovolo mullions, equipped with hoodmoulds and small leaded pane casements. The ground floor windows are set under flush relieving arches, while the upper porch window consists of three lights. The doorway features reeded and base-stopped jambs, topped with a Tudor arch supported by moulded abaci and ornamental consoles that project at right angles. Above the arch is an entablature adorned with two patera motifs and a central projecting bracket. The porch has keyed oculi on its side walls and a 20th-century plank door. A datestone from 1687 is located in the porch gable, alongside a restoration tablet bearing the initials of H. Martin Gibbs of Barrow Court on the left-hand wing gable end. The farmhouse is capped with two coupled gable end stacks.
