Description
The Stables at Barrow Court, dated 1891, is a former stable range that has been converted into housing. It features squared and coursed rubble with stone dressings, copings, concrete pantile roofs, and ashlar stacks. The building has a U-shaped plan with a main entrance range and adjoining rear ranges, consisting of one storey and an attic, with a six-bay entrance range. The windows are 2-light ovolo mullions with hoodmoulds and small pane glazing; those on the ground floor are set under flush relieving arches, while the upper floor windows are located within gabled dormers. A central pointed-arched carriage entrance has two-leaf plank gates, and there are Tudor-arched doorways on either side with plank doors. Above the carriage arch, there is a clockface in the central gable that displays the date and the inscription: 'COME IN TIME'. The building also features three ridge stacks and a central open cupola with wooden corner piers and a lead cap topped with a weathervane. The inner courtyard ranges have undergone extensive alterations.
