Description

This is a long row of cottages dated to the mid-19th century, located on Copse Road. Numbers 18 to 32 (even), with number 32 set back on the left-hand side, form the main group. The cottages are built with rubble fronts and ashlar dressings, under slate roofs punctuated by parapets and stacks. Stone quoins and bands feature prominently on the front elevations. The first floor windows are single or two-light, with the two-light windows paired under gablets incorporating saddlestones and pointed strainer arches, and decorative paterae. The ground floor has large stone bays with pointed lights and moulded cornices. Most of the windows are original sashes. The doorways are largely round-headed and paired, with hoods supported on cut stone brackets. Numbers 2 to 34 (even), number 5, numbers 35 to 39 (odd), number 13 Seavdale Road, and numbers 3 and 7 form a group of local interest.
