Description

Rodney House, comprising Nos. 19 and 20, is likely early 19th century in date. The building is two storeys high and has rendered and colourwashed exterior walls. A hipped slate roof covers both properties, with brick chimney stacks located at both ends of the roof and one in the centre. Projecting eaves are present. The facade is divided by pilasters featuring moulded capitals. There are six windows, three to each property, with sashes set in plain reveals and thin glazing bars. The ground floor windows of No. 19 have wooden shutters, and are extended downwards to create French windows. No. 20 has modern shop fronts projecting from the ground floor. The central doorway is round-headed and features a six-panel door and a semi-circular fanlight with Y-tracery. Rodney House is part of a group that includes the fountain on Alexandra Road, the Pier, and the Tollhouse on Marine Parade.
