Description

The gazebo, steps, and garden wall located about 50 metres northeast of Naish House were built around 1830-1840. The structure is made of rubble with limestone dressings and features a pyramidal slate roof. The octagonal gazebo is designed in the Perpendicular Gothic style. Attached to the west of the gazebo is a wall that is approximately 30 metres long and 4 metres high, which includes a stone seat at first floor level. Access to the upper storey of the gazebo is provided by a flight of 11 steps on the south side.

The gazebo itself has two storeys; the first floor features a door with a moulded surround and a pediment, along with three blind windows in ovolo-moulded surrounds to the right. The northwest side includes an oriel window with a blank arcaded base supported by demi-figures of a knight and lady dressed in medieval costume, and cusped lights. The remaining sides have single light windows with cusped heads and square hood moulds with mask stops. The cornice is adorned with gargoyles, and there is a pierced tracery parapet topped with an octagonal panelled ashlar stack.

Inside, the gazebo retains significant fragments of Gothick plasterwork, including a ribbed ceiling. This structure is part of the extensive service and garden buildings that were associated with the former Naish House, which was burnt and demolished, all designed in a Gothic style. The gazebo is now situated within the grounds of a mid-20th century Naish House.
