Description
Sperring's Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Moor Lane in Clapton in Gordano. It features a mid-19th-century rear addition and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble with a double Roman tiled roof and has brick and stone stacks.
The farmhouse is divided into three sections, with the central part being lower. On the left side, there are two and a half storeys with one window; a three-light window at the ground floor and a two-light window at the first floor, both featuring 20th-century glazing and a timber lintel. Above this, there is a small off-centre gable with a lancet window and a hood mould, along with a raised coped verge and a gable stack to the left.
The central block has one and a half storeys, featuring a two-light casement window and a 20th-century gabled porch with a glazed door. There is also a small central gable with a two-light casement. The right section has two and a half storeys with two-light casement windows at both the ground and first floors, along with a small central gable above.
The right return includes a projecting bay with a two-light 20th-century casement window at both the ground and first floors, which may have been the former site of a staircase. A tall stone stack rises from the rear. The 19th-century addition to the right has a door and a first-floor sash window with a wider central pane.
The left return features a blocked window with a hood mould at both the first floor and attic, with a second unglazed attic opening to the left, complete with shutters and strap hinges. Set back to the left is a 19th-century two-storey addition that has a door and an eight-pane light with a relieving arch above, along with a 20th-century plate-glass window in the gable end. The rear of the main range has a two-light casement window at both the ground and first floors on the right. The interior has not been inspected.
