Description
The Black Horse is an inn with origins dating back to the 17th century, featuring later alterations and additions. It is constructed of whitewashed rubble and has a double Roman tiled roof with brick ridge and gable stacks. The building is L-shaped, with a later addition in the angle and a through passage. It stands two storeys tall and has four windows. The first floor features all 20th-century sash windows with glazing bars positioned under the eaves. The ground floor includes, from left to right, a sash window with a wider central pane, another sash window, a door with raised fillets and glazing, and a larger sash window in an exposed box; there is also a plinth. The right return has a ground floor sash window with a wider central pane and a nameboard at the first floor. The left return is rendered and has a 20th-century single light window at the first floor. The rear of the building has two doors, one leading to the through passage, and two small 20th-century lights under the eaves. A single-storey rear wing and addition create a two-span roof, featuring two 20th-century lights at the rear and a door and 20th-century window on the inner side. Inside, there is a stack to the left of the passage with a wide fireplace that has a mantel on carved brackets. To the right, there is a spice cupboard with a raised panel on the door, and a winder stair located behind a door to the rear left of the passage. The upper stair light is now concealed by the rear wing, and the front windows have shutters with raised panels. The upper rooms have not been inspected.
