Description
Moat House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid 17th century, likely around the 1640s, and was remodelled in the mid to late 19th century. The building is rendered with a tiled roof and features brick stacks. It has two storeys, attics, and a basement at the rear. The structure consists of three bays with 20th-century three-light casement windows, and a four-light casement window on the west gable end that has ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds. A central plank door is set beneath a gabled projecting porch with an arched doorway and a fretted bargeboard. There is a rear stair tower and a sundial with a 1640s date inscribed, which has been re-set on the south-east corner.
The rear wing is constructed of rubble with a double Roman tiled roof and has two storeys. It features two-light casement windows with segmental heads, while the north gable end has a three-light casement window with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, situated under a relieving arch. The west elevation includes a large projecting stack with offsets. Inside, there is a newel stair, and the first-floor door is studded with strap hinges that have open scroll ends. The rear wing has a chamfered lintel above the fireplace and chamfered beams. The current building likely occupies a much older site and is partly surrounded by a moat.
