Description
The Dairy at Lower Charlton Farm is a model dairy built in the mid to late 19th century. It is constructed from coursed, rough-faced rubble with freestone dressings and features a decorative tiled roof made of plain and fish-scale tiles, with the upper part overhanging and louvred for ventilation. The building has an octagonal shape, with a single two-light cross window on each side and a square-headed doorway. Inside, the dairy retains all its original fittings, including a decorative tiled floor and walls, stained glass windows with a floral design, marble tables around the walls with butter-making sinks that have fluted sides, and a central two-tier marble fountain on a baluster stem.
